Evans arrived at the Exiles for the 2011-12 season and as a result witnessed first hand the finales of legendary pairing Nick Kennedy and Bob Casey.
With Kennedy departing for pastures new in Toulon last summer and Casey retiring Evans had some considerable boots to fill, with Irish losing a pairing with a combined total of 453 Exiles appearances between them.
Irish looked to be struggling to fill that void in the back end of 2012 with the pack struggling to provide the Aviva Premiership platform their exciting back line craved.
However the turn of the year has changed all that. Beginning 2013 with a vital Aviva Premiership win at Gloucester, three cup victories - two Amlin Challenge and one LV= Cup - means Evans and co head to Cardiff Blues this weekend with their confidence sky-high.
"My first season at London Irish Bob (Casey) and Nick (Kennedy) were still here and I was lucky enough to experience that," Evans said.
"When you are around players who have been at a club for ten plus years you have just got to be a sponge and learn as much as you can from them and I tried to do that.
"At the start of the season we struggled a bit and results didn't go our way but we are in good form at the minute and you do notice the mood around the place is a bit better.
"We have got some exciting backs here and we are starting to get a good platform now for them which is great.
"There are a lot of different guys at Irish this year compared to last year so it will take a while to click.
"Having a dominant scrum in this league is a must and we are still a work in progress but things are looking a lot better."
Irish ran in six tries in a 46-24 win over Worcester last time out - a far cry from their Aviva Premiership form that has seen them manage 16 in 13 games, the second-worst record in the league.
Evans however insists the secret behind their 2013 turnaround is nothing more than a stripped back approach.
"We have just been simplifying a few things," he added.
"We have gone back to basics and tried to get some good ball to the backs and they have really been able to show what they can do.
"It is a simple game when you break it down."
