With the 28-year-old hooker still in the army Dwyer is now in the process of clearing his proposed new two-year deal and expects the contract to be finalised imminently.
As such a trip to Rodney Parade to take on his home-town club, who lost their last LV= Cup game against Northampton Saints, makes it a double cause for celebration - with the hooker eager to continue impressing the likes of Ospreys boss Steve Tandy.
"I have all the contract sorted, I just need to talk to the army now to clear it with them and generally dot the i's and cross the t's," he said.
"It's hugely exciting and I am relishing the opportunity to go back to Rodney Parade this weekend and go up against the Dragons.
"I played for Newport in junior rugby and grew up around there but I have never actually played against the Dragons so it will be nice to go back with the Ospreys and show people what I can do.
"The paper work is all sorted on the contract, I just need to speak to my bosses in the army and make sure that I am happy and they're happy.
"It's my first time I'll be playing against the Dragons and I'm relishing the opportunity. It was a bit of a culture shock going from the army into the Ospreys full time but it is just absolutely amazing to be honest.
"Everyone dreams of playing professional rugby or football or whatever when they are growing up and so I am just thankful I have been given the opportunity."
With a new deal now in the pipeline Dwyer is now desperate to ensure his LV= Cup action this weekend ushers in a regular RaboDirect PRO12 berth going forward.
Dwyer has only made two Celtic league appearances so far this season and added: "All I can do now is to make sure I am taking the opportunities I am given.
"I just want to repay the faith the management have put in me and hopefully try and get as many appearances as I can in between now and the end of the season."
