But so far 2012/13 has proven to be a struggle for the 21-year-old, with just seven league appearances off the bench and regular starts limited to LV= Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup action.
As such Jones knows the importance of the next three weeks - he played the full 80 minutes in last week's 71-7 demolition of Mogliano and is targeting the upcoming period of LV= Cup and European rugby as the perfect chance to seal a regular spot in Dai Young's starting XV.
"It's been disappointing for me this season because I got a good run of games under my belt and felt I did well with them," said Jones.
"Of course it's frustrating but we have a better squad this season than last and I know that coming in every Monday.
"What I have to do now is use the LV= Cup and the Amlin - it's a big chance for me and hopefully I can get a bit of a run in the Premiership again as a result of how I perform.
"I enjoy the competitive side of it but I know you don't earn a first-team spot based solely on training, match performances are key and I'm fully aware of that.
"I want to take any chance I'm given with both hands and hopefully when that opportunity comes I will be ready - I know I can perform, it's a case of getting it done on the field."
And though the announced departure of No.8 Billy Vunipola opens a door of opportunity Jones still expects the highly-rated England prospect to see out the rest of the season.
"Billy has been a great asset to this club and we will certainly be sad to see him go. I'd expect him to keep on playing as the season goes on but if I can get myself back into contention I'll be in a good position next year."
The in-form Adams Park outfit have secured a quarter-final in the Challenge Cup but need a win from their final pool game against Newport Gwent Dragons on Thursday night to secure a home tie.
And Jones is convinced Wasps can go all the way in the competition - and knows helping bring a trophy to Adams Park will set his long-term ambitions at the club in good stead.
"We feel pretty fearless at home and if we welcomed any top European club from there we would be confident," he said.
"We've known what we can do and I think we all believe we can go all the way, and we're running well in the LV= Cup too. I would love to contribute to something like that, and that makes every game of rugby I'm getting all the more important."
