With a double-header against French opposition to come in the Amlin Challenge Cup, and a seven-point lead in their pool, Gloucester have a perfect opportunity to put their recent blip behind them by securing a home quarter-final with two wins.
And with everything to play for from their final two LV= Cup group games, full-back Cook is adamant he and his team-mates are happy to put the Premiership to one side, albeit temporarily, as they look to continue their bid to bring silverware to Kingsholm this season.
"We were really disappointed with the London Irish performance as I don't think we were at our best, but fair play to them, it was a good display and they deserved to win," he said.
"The most frustrating thing was the fact we know we can play a lot better than we did.
"We have a perfect opportunity now to put all that behind us and get stuck in to some European rugby this weekend.
"That seven-point lead isn't going to make us take our foot off the pedal. We want a home tie in the quarter-final and not only that, we want to go on and win the competition - and we know we can do that.
"I know we are good enough, I'm convinced of that, and hopefully a good series of wins in these next few weeks will mean that when the Premiership comes around again we will be well placed to hit the ground running and push on for the top four again."
Though he already feels like part of the furniture at Kingsholm, Cook admits he has to pinch himself on occasion when reflecting his first half-season of top-flight rugby.
Signing from Cornish Pirates in the summer, the 28-year-old was happy to bide his time and wait for a regular spell of action in the number 15 jersey.
But injuries to Martyn Thomas and Olly Morgan opened the door to Cook and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, with ten Premiership appearances to his name already this season, and the Englishman insists he is relishing the experience.
"If I'm completely honest it has gone a lot better than I imagined it would," added Cook.
"I was more than happy to just be here and soak up the atmosphere and get used to life in the Premiership initially but as it turned out I was straight in there and I haven't really looked back since.
"My aim now is to keep on improving and hopefully I can be a part of bringing some success to what is a fantastic rugby club, and I know we have the potential to do it."
