Despite being a regular fixture in the Exiles matchday squad Bateman's nine Aviva Premiership appearances this season have come as a replacement.
Having utilised the last break from domestic action to morph from a fringe player to a matchday squad regular, Bateman is relishing the upcoming opportunity to make the next step.
"The Amlin and the LV= Cup is a good opportunity for the boys to be putting their hands up for selection," he said.
"Lynn always picks squads and teams on the back of how people are playing and their form and so this next couple of weeks is a good chance to do that.
"Playing both at Premiership and European level is a new thing for me and it is something that I am really enjoying.
"It is something that I had to get used to early on but once I got used to that pace it is something that I am relishing.
"Obviously I am hoping and working towards trying to get a first Prem start. The last time the Amlin Cup came around it helped get me from not being in the matchday squad to pushing close and being on the bench.
"So it is a great opportunity to be putting a marker down for me."
The chance to lay such markers will come in European games against Club I Cavalieri and Stade Francais before an LV= Cup clash against reigning Aviva Premiership champions Harlequins at the end of the month.
Welsh are fresh off the back of claiming a losing bonus point against Quins, a result which leaves them ten points clear of bottom side Sale Sharks.
And Bateman is adamant the Exiles are looking up not down the Premiership table and insists he's happy to play anywhere to lend his support.
The 23-year-old has played as both a prop and a hooker in his time with Welsh and added: "Obviously I am happy to take whatever opportunities I get in whatever position the club wants me to play.
"I have played at hooker and prop in my time at Welsh and while I have played mainly at two this year I am always happy to keep my tools sharp by playing in either position.
"I am just happy to be involved and to serve in whatever way I can."
